Police responded to a fatal stabbing around 9 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 20) at the Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, and an 18-year old and his mother have been arrested in connection with the crime.

According to Lt. Raul Denis with the Horry County Police Department, Adam Taylor Dwiggins of Shelby, of Shelby, N.C., was involved in a fight when he was confronted by Michael Dalton Fitch, 17, who also was from Shelby.

The Myrtle Beach Sun News reported that Fitch stepped in to defend a girl from Dwiggins, who is accused of fatally stabbing the teen Fitch was stabbed in the chest and back, the newspaper reported.

Fitch was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have charged the suspect with murder and his mother, Kathy Ledford Dwiggins, 51, was charged with accessory to murder after the fact. Both are being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. No bail has been set.

The case is still under investigation
