Labor Day Mayhem: New Hampshire Standoff
A standoff between police and a Raymond, N.H., man ended peacefully Sunday night (Sept. 4) when the man was arrested without incident inside his camper at a local campground, the Manchester City Buzz Examiner.
Mark Cormier of Raymond was arrested and charged with criminal threatening after the incident that brought state and local police along with a SWAT team to the Pine Acres Resort Campground on Freetown Road.
The incident started around 7 p.m. Sunday when a concerned party called Raymond police to report an intoxicated man was threatening to commit suicide with a firearm.
When police arrived on the scene Cormier retreated to the camping trailer and barricaded himself inside. He continued to threaten his life and the lives of any officer who came near him.
Around 9 p.m. the SWAT team was called in to help local police end the situation..
The SWAT team fired a flash bomb into the camper just after 1 a.m. Monday and took Cormier into custody. He was taken to Exeter Hospital for an evaluation before being released to police.
Several campers were evacuated from the area near Cormier's campsite as the incident began to unfold. While several campers told local affiliate WMUR a man with a gun was threatening police, it still has not been confirmed if Cormier had a gun.
The standoff was made more difficult due to the close proximity of tents and campers in the campground, and the fact there were over 1,500 people in the campground at the time enjoying the Labor Day Weekend.
