Goodhue County commissioners in southeast Minnesota on Tuesday (Nov. 15) will consider shutting down a popular camping destination along the Cannon Valley River, the Rochester Post-Bulletin reported.

The 300-acre, 200-site Hidden Valley Campground, operated by Cory Axelson, has had compliance issues with the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and required 61 service calls by local authorities in the last 18 months.

On Oct. 18, the county board tabled a decision on the campground after Axelson’s attorney, Dan Schleck, requested more time to study the matter; he’s only been involved since September. A conference call to discuss the matter has been scheduled for today (Nov. 14), prior to Tuesday morning’s meeting.

“The campground is shut down for the season,” Schleck said. “It closes on Halloween, basically. We’re going to try to get those things taken care of over the winter.”

The county has posted a 10-page report that outlines its concerns.
