Editor’s Note: Kristy Smith, executive director of the Ohio Campground Owners Association (OCOA), provided the following report on the OCOA’s recent Fall Fun Day and POOT Tour.

The Ohio Campground Owners Association (OCOA) Annual Fall Fun Day and POOT Tour were held Oct. 19-20 at the Holiday Inn French Quarter in Perrysburg, Ohio. There were over 60 owners in attendance, representing approximately 30 campgrounds.

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, we kicked off the Fun Day with a tour of the Wildwood Manor House, the former estate of the Stranahan family of Champion Spark Plug Co. Next we visited the Blair Lithophanes Museum, which houses the world’s largest collection of lithophanes, etched or molded artwork in thin porcelain. We finished up with a tour of the 150-year-old Oliver House, which predates the Civil War and toured the attached Maumee Bay Brewing Co., now home to the famous Buckeye Beer. We finished the day with dinner and a Cracker Barrel at the Oliver House.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, we embarked on a POOT Tour of Northwest District member campgrounds, including: Stony Ridge KOA (Perrysburg), Twin Lakes Park (Bluffton), Lazy J RV Resort (Bellevue) and Walnut Grove Campground (Tiffin), where attendees participated in a Cracker Barrel session. Throughout the day, our gracious hosts provided a progressive style meal, snacks and beverages while attendees walked the grounds of each campground, asked questions, and gathered ideas. Unfortunately, due to heavy rains and flooding issues, we were unable to visit our final stop, Leafy Oaks Campground (Clyde).

Thank you to our wonderful hosts in the Northwest District for allowing us to visit your campgrounds. In particular, thank you to Bill Miller of Stony Ridge KOA and Joan Faneuff of Leafy Oaks Campground for planning the conference!

Next fall, the annual event will be held in Southwest Ohio, dates and location to be determined.
