KOA Convention "First Timers" Stephanie and Michael Joyner of the Beaver, Utah, KOA enjoy Sunday's First Timer's Reception at the Las Vegas KOA Convention.

More than 500 Kampgrounds of America (KOA) owners from throughout North America arrived in Las Vegas, Nev., Sunday (Nov. 6) for the start of the 2011 KOA Convention.

The convention began at noon Sunday with hundreds of KOA owners traveling to the Tule Archeological Park just outside Las Vegas. KOA owners armed with yellow trash bags combed the desert park for garbage as part of KOA’s annual Kamp Green Program community project.

Last year, at the 2010 convention in Savannah, Ga., convention participants helped reclaim oyster bed habitats and also helped construct trails at a historic Civil War fort.

More than 150 KOA Convention participants spread across the desert near Las Vegas to collect garbage as part of the KOA Kamp Green Community Project.

The 2011 KOA Convention in Las Vegas gets into full gear today, when the 2012 KOA Franchisee of the Year and the winner of the 2012 KOA Rising Star Award will be announced.
