South Dakota Fairgrounds to Host Airstreamers in 2013
South Dakota State Fairgrounds officials and the community of Huron announced that they will host the 2013 Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI) Convention and Rally next year.
The Airstream camper rally will officially begin June 28, 2013, and last through July 4, 2013, KSFY-TV, Sioux Falls, reported.
“We are excited to host this event, as we certainly have the room to accommodate them. Not only will they take up a majority of our campsites, but they will also be using several buildings,” said State Fairgrounds Manager Jerome Hertel. “This event and the National Red Power Round Up in 2014 are really putting the South Dakota State Fairgrounds on the map in terms of being a viable host for national events.”
Annual Wally Byam rallies have averaged 673 Airstream campers in the last three years, and officials look forward to seeing that same number when the 2013 rally is held in Huron.
“This is great piece of business for Huron and for South Dakota,” said Peggy Woolridge, executive director of the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau. “While the rally is being held in Huron, participants will be sight-seeing and camping in other parts of the state as well.”
WBCCI is the recreational vehicle club of Airstream owners. It is named for Wally Byam, who invented the Airstream travel trailer. To be a member and participate in club activities, a person must own a self-contained recreational vehicle made by Airstream Inc.
