From the Rockingham County Daily Journal:

Two men suffered burns on their arms in a propane explosion inside their RV while camped at the Pine Camp Ground, on Hwy. 1, near the Rockingham Dragway, at about 10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to Sheriff James Clemmons Jr.

Michael Gardner, 43, and Sandy Geoff, 43, of Camden, S.C., were flown to Chapel Hill Burn Center, authorities said.

The Northside Fire Department set up an area at the dragway for the emergency response helicopter to land, while EMS and Hoffman Fire and Rescue tended to the men.

“There were eggs on the stove, which leads us to believe that a propane leak caused an explosion when the stove was ignited,” said Hoffman Fire Chief Frank McKay. “Amazingly, there was no fire but one wall of the travel trailer was pushed out from the explosion.”

McKay said the men sustained most of the burns on their arms, and managed to get themselves out of the travel trailer before help arrived.

“They were very lucky — it could have been much worse,” he said.

From, Hendersonville:

Spring has barely begun, but visitors already are traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway to see the early blossoms, said Tim Frances, Pisgah District forest ranger.

A couple of campgrounds are opening early for trout season, which begins this weekend, he said.

Linville Falls campground in North Carolina opens April 2 and Otter Creek in Virginia opens April 6. All other Parkway campgrounds open May 11.
