Some of the rental units that await guests at the Triple Creek Campground, which is reopening this week.

Arvis Keys attended an auction last May "just to be nosey" and was so impressed by the campground that was up for sale that he bought it.

Now, the 70-year-old first-time campground owner is ready to unveil his purchase: a 65-site, heavily wooded property nestled in the mountains of east Tennessee near Gatlinburg and trisected by three creeks, hence the name, Triple Creek Campground.

The campground has been closed for the past year while workers built new bridges, updated other facilities and did overall maintenance.

Keys projects a May 1 opening. He was hoping to get Internet access, a website and Wi-Fi up and running in time for the opening.

All RV sites have water and either 30-amp or 50-amp service. There are also six cabins. He has a variety of 12 RVs for rent as well.

Virtually all of the sites front on one of the three creeks, which are stocked with trout, he noted.

Keys' wife Yvonne will manage the park.

He hopes to take advantage of the area's mild climate and remain open well into November, he said.

The physical address for his campground is 141 Lower Bogard Road, Newport, Tenn. 37821.
