From the Holland Sentinel:

Hundreds of equestrians will hit the trails at Silver Creek Park and Campground in Hamilton this weekend for the 38th annual Allegan Pleasure Riders benefit ride.

Riders raise money for Wings of Hope Hospice. Last year, the event drew 130 riders despite the cold and rain and raised $11,623 for the hospice.

The 75 campsites at the 320-acre park at 134th Avenue and 38th Street sold out in a day and half, according to organizers.

From KY3-TV, Springfield:

Damage from high lake levels in 2011 will force the Army Corps of Engineers to close a campground on Table Rock Lake near Branson for the entire 2012 season. Old Highway 86 Park is located 5 miles south of Branson, and features 71 campsites on an area of land that has the lake on three sides.

The Army Corps of Engineers says ongoing construction to repair the damage from last year’s flooding forced it to close the park.

From Athens Banner-Herald:

Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials announced that Watson Mill Bridge in Comer will return to state park status on May 1.

Park visitors can already make advance reservations for campsites, bunk houses, horse stalls and picnic shelters for May-November.

The state has a four-year agreement with Madison County to provide funding for three part-time positions. Additional funding has been provided by Oglethorpe County and the park’s Friends group, for a total of $30,000 each year.

As a result, visitors can again make reservations seasonally, March through November. During the off-season, December through February, most facilities will be first-come, first-serve. The regular campground, group shelter and pioneer campground will close during winter.

Reservation status at park facilities:

  • Regular Campground – Previously was open seasonally with no reservations accepted. Will now accept reservations March–November.
  • Pioneer Campground and Group Shelter – Previously were closed. Will now accept reservations March–November.
  • Equestrian Campground, Horse Stalls and Bunk Houses — Previously were open year-round with no reservations accepted. Will now accept reservations March – November.

Watson Mill Bridge State Park is home to one of the few remaining covered bridges in Georgia. It is known for exceptional horseback riding trails, camping and beautiful scenery. The park is located 3 miles south of Comer off State Highway. 22.

Work at the Windsor Lake recreation area near North Adams, Mass., is continuing apace as the campground prepares for its official seasonal opening on May 15.

The date was set at Tuesday’s meeting of the Windsor Lake Recreation Commision at which commissioners were updated on the progress of a number of projects.

“I want it publicly known that the commission is extremely pleased with what the city has done for us this spring,” said Chairman George Forgea. “A lot has happened in the last two months that I don’t think anybody in this room ever expected.”

Among the major projects was the replacement and extension of water and sewer lines into Historic Valley Campground.
