The Two Rivers Campground in Carrollton, Ky., is getting closer to its projected grand opening date of May 7.

The city proposes nightly rates for Sunday through Thursday night of $35; Friday and Saturday the cost is $40; and for the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend the rate is $50 per night with a three-night minimum, the Madison (Ind.) Courier reported.

Meeting on Monday (April 23), the city council accepted a campground manager bid from Frances Wyman, who will clean up and perform general maintenance on the grounds, check in campers, plan entertainment and decorate the campground for special holidays or events. The compensation she asked for was a site where she can live with paid utilities and enough compensation to cover the cost of her liability insurance and worker’s compensation, which is necessary to contract with the city.

Although the city accepted the bid from Wyman, the council scheduled a special meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday to approve a contract outlining the specific duties of the campground manager.

During that special meeting, the council also will discuss installing a touch-screen reservation system at the campground. During the meeting Monday, Brent Graves from Powered On LLC, who had originally proposed a touch-screen at a cost of $1,500, went back to the council members to tell them about a seemingly indestructible ATM-like machine made to withstand temperature changes and vandalism.

However, the total cost would be $3,695, which included not only the machine but security cameras to focus on the machine. The council decided to discuss with the campground reservation system company whether it was necessary to have the touch-screen reservation system at the campground, and then decide whether to approve the purchase of the machine.
