Bamboo Ridge Campground, a Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) franchise near Waterloo, Iowa, is slated for a July 4 opening.

Bamboo Ridge convenience store manager Kim Frost has been taking calls for reservations ranging to mid-September, the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reported.

"We are not able to officially take reservations until the website goes up at the beginning of June," Frost said. "But I get calls on a daily basis and have been penciling campers in for spots throughout the season, and unless something completely unexpected happens we should be able to open on our target date."

The tropical-themed site will include 154 RV sites, 10 tent campsites, 10 cabins, laundry and shower facilities and pavilions all situated around an 11-acre lake, with a beach for paddle boats and swimming. Events for Bamboo Ridge already have been planned, including a disc golf tournament, snow golf, and even a lakeside wedding.

The new park should boost attendance for Lost Island, a nearby theme park.

"Typically our visitors are local or regional," said Eric Bertch, Lost Island manager. "With the help of the KOA site, we should be able to expand our reach and pull in a much broader crowd from a much farther distance."

Package deals that would include reduced admission into Lost Island are currently in the making for those staying at Bamboo Ridge. Bertch also said deals involving the campground, waterpark and the Isle Casino, are something park officials hope to put together in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Bertch said thanks to early warm weather, the park is expecting record numbers during its 11th season. "We are looking to exceed our ceiling of 120,000 guests this summer," Bertch said.

Lost Island will be opening its doors for the summer Friday, and after a dip in numbers during 2011, park officials can only hope the current streak of fair weather spills over into the summer.

"Cold weather plagued us last year," Bertch said. "June is usually our lowest month for attendence, but with temperatures being unaturally high for this time of the year, it looks like we could get our best June numbers ever."

After opening in 2001, Lost Island has gone through a number of expansions and additions.

New this year are private cabanas. The elevated and shaded cabanas provide customers a luxurious experience with comfortable sitting space, access to the park's Wi-Fi and a private server.

Luxury does not come without a price; spots are projected at $69 on top of the price of admission, with an $89 charge for a weekend.

Plans for a major waterpark expansion are in place for 2015, but details have not yet been released.
