Lightning Strikes Camper in Connecticut
A woman struck by lightning at a Bozrah, Conn., campground Monday (June 25) sustained second- and third-degree burns and was flown to Rhode Island Hospital, fire officials said.
Bozrah Fire Department Deputy Chief Ryan Scholes said firefighters responded to Odetah Campground at about 6 p.m. One unidentified woman was treated for burns and taken by ambulance to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. She was later flown by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence where she was listed in stable condition, the Norwich Bulletin reported.
Scholes said a tree near where the woman was standing was destroyed by the lightning strike. Several campers were also damaged during the brief evening storm. One camper’s windows were shattered and several had smoldering electrical systems.
