Towable RV Sales Dipped 3.2% in April

Retail sales of towable RVs dipped 3.2 percent in April compared with April 2011, Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI) has reported.

Most segments of towables slipped in year-over year comparisons. Travel trailer sales were flat, while fifth-wheel sales fell 7 percent, folding camping trailer sales dropped 19.2 percent and park model sales plunged 24.5 percent.

Thor Industries Inc. remained the overall leader in April with a 36.8 percent market share. But Forest River Inc. strengthened its hold on second place with a 32.6 percent share. Jayco inc. was third with a 12.2 percent share.

Thor remained the leader in travel trailer, fifth-wheel and park model sales with Forest River the leader in folding camping trailers and No. 2 in travel trailers and fifth-wheels. Jayco was No. 2 in folding camping trailers, while Skyline Corp. was runner-up in park model sales.
