2 New Campgrounds Planned Near Montreal
Those who love the outdoors will be able to camp just minutes from downtown Montreal as early as next spring, the Montreal Gazette reported
Two new campgounds will be built at the Îles de Boucherville Provincial Park beginning in 2013, Environment Minister Pierre Arcand said today (July 30).
The campgrounds are part of a $6.3 million investment in the park, which is composed of seven islands in the St. Lawrence River between Montreal and Boucherville.
The government will build a new welcome center, a dock for boaters and water shuttles and expand some trails, Arcand said.
There will be a total of 93 campsites on two islands, 75 of which will be in a car-free campground and include ready-to-camp sites that include camping equipment.
Last fall Quebec spent $15 million to acquire 20.6 hectares (51 acres) of land to expand the park.
