Olympic snowboarder Callan Chythlook-Sifsof joins search for missing family member.

The family of a missing Anchorage, Alaska, woman continues to search for her more than 10 days since she walked away from a Seward Highway campground, upset about something.

Family members said Valerie Sifsof walked away from her boyfriend late the night of July 7 while they were at the Granite Creek campground, near Mile 64 of the Seward Highway about halfway between Anchorage and Seward, the Anchorage Daily News reported. When she didn't return the next day, the boyfriend left around noon, according to Alaska State Troopers. When Sifsof, 43, still had not been seen three days later, she was reported as missing.

Troopers assisted in the search with a helicopter and looked on the ground with dogs and four wheelers, said agency spokeswoman Megan Peters. The Alaska Mountain Rescue Group helped look in more hard-to-reach areas, she said.

But Peters said Tuesday the troopers have called off their official search for Sifsof until more information turns up.

"Certainly we want her to be accounted for, but we need something to tell us we're looking in the right place," Peters said. "It's just a matter of, we've used a lot of resources in this, and we haven't found anything."

Sifsof's family members, including Olympic snowboarder Callan Chythlook-Sifsof, are pressing on in their own search, a family representative said.

Valerie is still missing and family is still searching. Imminent snowfall will challenge continuing search of Granite Creek and campground.
If you were at the campground at the time, please speak up. Please make a call, send an email. The tiniest insignificant detail may make a difference.
