Successful Park Owners Tour (SPOT) Registration Now Open

Each year, in conjunction with the annual ARVC Outdoor Hospitality Conference & Expo (OHCE), ARVC has conducted a special tour providing interested park owners/operators with a visit to RV and camping facilities surrounding the convention city. The “Successful Park Operations Tour” (SPOT) provides the opportunity to learn best operating practices at successful parks.

2012 participants will board a motorcoach from the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas at 8 a.m. on the preconference date of Monday, Nov. 26, for a two-day park tour and return on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 5 p.m.

Bob MacKinnon, CPO of MacKinnon Campground Consulting, and Jeff Sims, CPO, former award winning park owner/operator and ARVC director of state relations and program advocacy, will be your hosts for the tour. Bob has led the SPOT for many years, is a Lifetime Certified Park Operator, and is a nationally recognized expert in the RV park and campground industry. Both tour leaders will bring a unique perspective to each park visited, closely examining what makes these properties successful. Past participants report gathering a number of new ideas to improve their business practices and facilities as well as opportunities to network with fellow park owners/operators on the tour and at the parks.

Visit the Outdoor Hospitality Conference & Expo website – – for more information and registration information. Interested park owners/operators are encouraged to make reservations early as space for SPOT are limited.

Congress Finally Enacts Highway Measure

In the final hours before the Fourth of July recess, the U.S. House and Senate approved a bipartisan surface transportation conference report – Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) – that will provide $105 billion for the nation’s roads and infrastructure through Fiscal Year 2014 (which ends on Sept. 30, 2014).

The Senate passed the 596-page conference report on MAP-21 by a vote of 74 to 19, while the House passed the legislation by a vote of 373 to 52.

The conference report is critical to the ARVC members and travel and tourism industry in that it focuses heavily on road and bridge construction. Among other things, the conference report is intended to help reduce congestion and make our nation more competitive in terms of transportation. It is estimated that MAP-21 will create 3 million jobs.
