An advisory board has approved a plan to make the 13 new equestrian campsites at the city-owned campground on Mozingo Lake near Maryville, Mo., reservation-only sites with no pets allowed and that all children must be accompanied by an adult.

After much discussion about what could be changed, added or removed to suit the needs of everyone, primarily the equestrian campers, the Mozingo Advisory Board approved City Manager Greg McDanel’s recommendations with the addition that the board will review the rules after the end of the peak camping season during their September meeting, the Nodaway News Leader reported.

Mozingo Park Manager Grant Evans told the board that Shelly Combs had been selected as the new camp host. Evans also presented the board with 2010-2011 numbers for rentals, reservations and other activities at Mozingo Park and Lake. The board requested the 2012 numbers, which will be e-mailed to the group later in the month.

Evans also informed the board that he had talked to the Northwest Technical School building trades teacher about building cabins at the lake possibly as soon as the 2013-2014 school year. NTS was open to further discussions and no further steps have been taken until the city completes their budget.

McDanel told the board that he has been in discussion with Northwest’s business and marketing classes to develop a plan for Mozingo’s branding and marketing services. The board received branding and advertising campaign concepts developed by Jacquie Lamer, instructor at Northwest in communication and mass media, which detailed what services the Northwest students would provide.

The students would report back to the city with their findings, allowing the city to move forward with the plans to a professional marketing company. The board approved to suggest to the city council the Northwest’s services for $1,000 for all expenses with a presentation to be given Dec. 5 on the brand and marketing information.
