Due to imminent threat from the Cave Canyon Fire in southern Idaho, the Twin Falls and Cassia County sheriff's departments implemented a mandatory evacuation of campgrounds in Rock Creek Canyon and Dry Creek Road from Foot Hills Road south late Thursday (Aug. 9), the Twin Falls Times-News reported.

The evacuation applies to the areas near 2900 North, south of Hansen. A voluntary evacuation was implemented shortly after 10 p.m., according to emergency dispatchers.

Campgrounds south of Hansen and Murtaugh were being closed late Thursday and all nonessential traffic to the South Hills was being cut off.

Lori Stewart with the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office said county Emergency Management was trying to arrange a place for evacuated people to go.

Scanner traffic indicated people who evacuated were meeting at the Rock Creek General Store. All questions can be directed to the Rock Creek General Store where emergency management is stationed.
