The Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) has sent out its annual end-of-summer reminder to the camping public that it’s not too late to make their online reservations at privately owned and operated campgrounds, RV parks and resorts across Texas, many of which have special events planned for Labor Day weekend.

“Most privately owned and operated campgrounds can be booked through TexasCampgrounds.com and TexasCabinRentals.net, Brian Schaeffer, TACI executive director and CEO, stated in a news release.

Here’s a sampling of some of the parks throughout Texas that still have vacancy over the holiday weekend:

  • Hi-Line Lake Resort in Tow: This park has 54 RV sites as well as a lodge and 19 waterfront cabins on the northwest side of Lake Buchanan.
  • Palestine Pines RV Campground & Marina Park Resort in Tyler: This park features lakefront access, scenic views and the opportunity to experience recreation on Lake Palestine. The park has RV sites, cabin rentals, tent sites and a private reception hall for large groups, reunions, wedding parties, as well as an outdoor company presentation stage, and an air-conditioned private reception assembly hall. Activities include fishing, boating, water-skiing, bird watching, wildlife viewing, hiking, horseback-riding, biking and swimming.
  • Rock’ N E RV Park in Coldspring: Located in a wooded area one hour north of Houston, this park offers 39 pull through campsites as well as primitive campsites. Voted the best park in San Jacinto County in 2011, Rock’ N E RV Park has six miles of nature trails. Fishing for largemouth and white bass, crappie and blue catfish is also available two miles away on Lake Livingston.
  • Rusk KOA in Rusk: The big Labor Day weekend event at this park is its annual Potjie Festival, the largest South African-themed event in the U.S. The Potjie Fest, which celebrates the three legged cast iron pot, is a family event with cooking competitions.
  • Sunset Point RV Resort on Lake LBJ: This 20-acre park is located on the north shore of Lake LBJ near the Wirtz Dam, about two miles west of Marble Falls and 60 miles from Austin.
  • Texas Lakeside RV Resort in Port Lavaca: This 97-site park, located just north of Rockport, surrounds a private fishing lake and walking trail. The park also has a 4,000-square-foot clubhouse with an essentials store, a media area, fitness center, recreation room, laundry facility, rally kitchen and private bathrooms. Labor Day weekend festivities in Port Lavaca include the annual Flip Flop Festival, which includes a Saturday night performance by country superstar Jack Ingram.
  • Texan RV Ranch in Mansfield: This 132-site park, which recently won TACO’s “Website of the Year” award, is located just minutes from the many attractions of Fort Worth and north Texas sports capital Arlington. The park features pull through RV sites as well as beautiful cabins and cottages, a swimming pool, a pavilion and a fully stocked store. The park also has a new clubhouse with kitchen facilities and an exercise room.
  • Top of the Hill RV Resort in Boerne: This 103-site park also has park model and log cabins for rent, complete with kitchens, air-conditioning and satellite television. On-site amenities include a swimming pool and hot tub and exercise room, while park activities include bingo and a poker tournament. The neighboring town of Bandera will feature free Western-themed entertainment Saturday afternoon, including strolling musicians and gunfights.

The Texas Association of Campground Operators publishes and distributes the Texas RV Travel & Camping Guide to Texas each year.
