Texas State Parks Resume Camping Class

August 28, 2012 by   - () 1 Comment

Texas Outdoor Family, a Texas state parks program, is hosting a series of workshops to help families learn the basics of camping.

In all, 26 workshops are scheduled at state parks across Texas, the Austin Statesman reported. Included are sessions Sept. 8 at Inks Lake State Park, Sept. 29 at Bastrop State Park, Oct. 5-6 at Inks Lake State Park, Oct. 20 at Pedernales Falls State Park, Oct. 20 at Lake Somerville State Park, Oct. 27 at Colorado Bend State Park, Nov. 10 at McKinney Falls State Park, and Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.

See a full schedule here.

During the overnight workshops, families learn the basic skills of pitching a tent and cooking outdoors. They also focus on how to enjoy the parks through activities like kayaking, fishing and geocaching – an outdoor treasure hunt using GPS technology. Participants also learn how to protect their state parks through good stewardship and “Leave No Trace” principles.

The workshops start at $65 per family (up to six people), and include camping fees, instruction from rangers, equipment rentals, and all gear except food and bedding. Families with no experience can show up with a few recommended household items and program staff will coordinate the rest of the weekend.

Wow!! Camping is one of the favorite summer-time activity for most of us. This is very nice initiative taken by texas state park . Organising a work shop for camping is realy a good idea and I think for the family upto six member the offered fees is also nominal. Altogether it is really nice concept learnig will be fun .
