Indiana Jellystone Gets Spooky for Halloween
People are used to seeing campgrounds filled with RVs and tents. But have you ever seen a campground decked out for Halloween? Imagine telling ghost stories around a campfire or taking a haunted walk through the woods.
According to a press release, it’s happening at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts across the country, including the Jellystone Park at Lake Monroe in Bloomington, Ind., which has three consecutive Halloween-themed weekends in October after its Oktoberfest themed weekend being held Oct. 5-7.
“We still have some campsites and cabins left, but they’re filling up quickly,” said Jessica Jarosinski, a front desk staff member at the Bloomington campground.
While the Oktoberfest weekend will feature German-themed crafts and games, the park’s Halloween weekends include a magic pumpkin patch, costume judging, pumpkin painting and trick or treating. The weekend of Oct. 12-14 also has a Saturday night Monster Mash street dance, while haunted walks in the woods are slated for the last two weekends of the month.
Jellystone Parks usually offer a mix of both scary and not so scary activities, which are designed to appeal to young children as well as teens and adults. For accommodations, the Bloomington campground offers RV and tent campsites, plus a variety of cabins.
In September, guests can take advantage of this special: Stay in a campsite or cabin between now and September 27 and you’ll receive a coupon for $30 off of a campsite or $50 off a cabin stay in 2013 (to be used before Memorial Day weekend.)
