Yellowstone-Area Parks Getting Grizzly Update

November 6, 2012 by   - () Leave a Comment

Supervisors of national forests in the Yellowstone region are about to get information that involves the potential danger of grizzly bears at dozens of campgrounds.

The data has been collected over the two years since a grizzly killed a camper at a Montana campground just outside Yellowstone National Park.

The Billings Gazette reports Forest Service grizzly bear coordinator Dan Tyres has been collecting information about 166 developed campgrounds in the region.

The information includes how many campsites and food storage boxes are present at each campground. The Forest Service also is looking over 21 years of data to see how grizzly bears are distributed in the forests.

The forest supervisors expect to get the new information at a meeting later this month.
