Ocean Lakes Announces Holiday Activities
Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, S.C., has expanded its New Year’s celebration with an extended weekend of fun for the entire family, including their canine members.
The highlight of the weekend will be the 13th Annual Polar Bear Plunge on Dec. 31. Festivities will be open to all guests staying at the campground, according to a news release.
A recent industry survey revealed that RVers overall plan to travel more during this 2012 season than they did in previous years. Myrtle Beach’s comparatively mild temperatures make Ocean Lakes a highly popular spot for RV enthusiasts during the holidays.
The campground sponsors many holiday-themed activities, and campground guests can enjoy an indoor pool, play miniature golf, and enjoy a variety of outdoor recreational activities such as shuffleboard, ping pong, and horseshoes, and long walks along the uncrowded beach.
Pets are a big part of camping and Ocean Lakes has added two new events for pets for 2012. The indoor holiday festivities will be located in the recreation center. On Dec. 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Plunger the Polar Bear will be available to have his photo taken with campers and their pets during the new “Polar Paws” event.
At 10 a.m., guests can enjoy the “Deck the Paws Pet Pageant.” Pets, dressed in their holiday finest, will compete for prizes in a variety of categories. The $5 entry fee will be donated to help injured and stray animals.
Guests can attend a daytime party in the RV park and still enjoy the Myrtle Beach nightlife. On December 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m, there will be a New Year’s Eve party. For $8.50 per person, guests can enjoy refreshments, games, music and party favors. Then, at 3 p.m., is the main event. Campers who wish to participate in the 13th Annual Polar Bear Plunge will meet at the shoreline. Over 450 guests participated last year.
Ocean Lakes is also hosting the first “New Year Tri” on Jan. 1. Guests can participate in the 100-yard indoor pool swim, 8-mile bike ride and a 1.6-mile run. Registration is open until December 20, 2012, and the cost is $45. For more information about the “New Year Tri” visit www.LongBayTri.com. The event coordinator can be contacted at email@example.com.
“We have a variety of family-oriented events throughout the year,” said Barb Krumm, director of marketing and public relations at Ocean Lakes Family Campground. “The Polar Bear Plunge has always been one of the favorites. This year, we’ve added in a few additional holiday activities to make it even more enjoyable for the entire family. We want to thank our guests for choosing Ocean Lakes this year as their vacation destination. Being a part of a family’s vacation memories means a lot to us. We look forward to 2013 and seeing our extended family, our guests, again next year.”
