The Vineyards Campground & Cabins in Grapevine, Texas, has received the campground industry’s highest honor, the “Park of the Year Award,” from the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC).

The 93-site campground, which also has 13 park model cabins, won the award in the small park category, which is based on several criteria, including customer service, employee training, operational excellence, national directory ratings and community service, according to a news release.

The Vineyards Campground & Cabins was also one of only 42 campgrounds, RV parks and resorts across the country to earn an all around "A" grade in the fifth annual GuestRated.com satisfaction survey of independent parks.

More than 30,000 camping and RV enthusiasts completed reviews in the GuestRated.com online survey, grading their experiences at 3,200 independent RV parks and campgrounds.

“Consistently earning an overall ‘A’ grade from guests is difficult, and our 42 winners this year represent less than 2% of all of the nation’s campgrounds.” said Bob MacKinnon, president and CEO of GuestRated.com, the Murrieta, Calif.-based company that conducted the online survey on behalf of ARVC.

The Vineyards Campground & Cabins received the awards during a Nov. 30 ceremony at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, which was hosted by ARVC.

About the Park

The Vineyards Campgrounds & Cabins occupies 52 acres of an 850-acre mostly wooded scenic area encircling Grapevine Lake. But while the park has undergone significant upgrades in recent years, including a $2.25 million expansion that included construction of 23 new campsites and the installation of seven new park model cabins, park General Manager Joe Moore said the awards are largely due to the efforts of his staff.

“My staff ‘gets it,’” he said. “They understand what the customer desires and what wows them. They understand what satisfies their outdoor hospitality expectations. They are friendly, helpful, congenial and respectful. They basically treat our guests as family and that makes our guests feel comfortable. This is evident in our guest review comments. Nine times out of 10 they will have something positive to say about the staff. They do things that are unexpected, like delivering firewood or helping people get hooked up or caring for them. We have a lot of people who stay with us while getting cancer treatment and other medical care in local hospitals.”

Moore also empowers his employees so that they can take immediate action to address issues of concern to guests without having to check with a supervisor.

“When I announced the winning of the awards to my staff,” Moore said, “You could see it put a little spring in their step. They’re all proud to be part of a winning organization.”
