Retail Towable RV Sales ‘Flat’ in November

Retail sales of towable RVs were virtually flat in November compared with November 2011, Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI) has reported.

The November report showed sales were up a scant 0.2%. Through November, sales for the year were up 8.3%.

Travel trailer and fifth-wheel each showed slight year-over-year growth, but folding camping trailer and park model sales continued off from a year earlier.

By segment in November, travel trailer sales were up 2.2%, fifth-wheel sales rose 1%, folding camping trailer sales fell 19.2% while park model sales fell 34.6%.

Thor Industries Inc. remained the towable leader with a 38.9% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. with a 30.6% share and Jayco Inc. with a 10.6% share.

Through November, travel trailer sales remained up 11.3%, fifth-wheel sales were up 6.1%, folding camping trailer sales were off 10.9% and park model sales were down 17.1%.
