Pop-Up Book to Aid National Park Lobby

Suffering the slings and arrows of the sequester, America’s national parks are strapped for cash more than ever. Yellowstone has idled its snowplows this month, delaying the park’s spring opening, and word going round is that Mount Rainier might not open its Ohanapecosh Visitor Center this year.
Here’s a way to raise a little money to help, and it’s a heap ‘o fun for your coffee table. Publishing April 8 is “America’s National Parks, A Pop-Up Book,” for adults, with support going to the National Parks Conservation Association, which helps lobby for parks across America. The goal is for $100,000 to go to the group.
I don’t know about you, but I loved the pop-up books my kid collected, especially the “Wizard of Oz” one, complete with pop-up Kansas twister.
This book, coming from W.W. West publishers, features six eye-popping pop-ups from some of the most popular national parks — Everglades, Great Smoky Mountains, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Glacier and Yosemite national parks. The national parks spring to life in three-dimensional scenes created by paper engineer Bruce Foster.
The pop-up art is in the style of 1930s WPA posters, and the sample I’ve seen of the 13-inch Old Faithful pop-up is a hoot.
