5 Campers Hurt in Michigan RV Park Explosion
An explosion at the Pleasant Lake Campground in Henrietta Township near Lansing, Mich., sent five members of a family to the hospital just before 7 p.m. on Sunday (June 2), WLNS-TV, Lansing, Mich., reported.
Officials say that two of the five people injured in the RV explosion had to be airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital in Detroit because of how badly they were burned. According to the hospital, two are in good condition, two are in fair and one college-aged woman is still listed in critical condition.
The manager of the campground, Leo Dansby, said the family members are regular campers, coming a few times a year for the last several years
There were other campers near the one that exploded, but none were damaged.
Officials tell 6 News that the explosion happened when a woman lit the stove inside the RV. Dansby said he has reason to believe they changed the hot water heater in the RV the night before and thought the tank may have had a leak.
The camper is considered a total loss.
