Update: Colorado’s Front Range Parks Open!
Editor’s Note: The following update on the wildifre that threatens the Royal Gorge area of Colorado is courtesy of Camp Colorado.
Prospectors RV Resort at Royal Gorge owners Rene and Mike Johnston told the Canon City Daily Record that they have not evacuated because of the ongoing Royal Gorge Fire.
“We never left,” Rene Johnston told the newspaper. “Nobody ever said anything to us.”
She said she had no idea how the fire would affect their business in the coming days.
“We took in people from Starlite Classic Campground (when they were evacuated Tuesday),” she said. “We’re trying to help. Neighbors who didn’t have any power were coming in to buy stuff from our store.”
However, Wednesday was quiet.
“It’s a ghost town,” Mike Johnston said. “All the tenters left. The people who were in the RVs stayed because they were somewhat self-contained (with their own generators).”

Meanwhile, Colorado visitors will find availability this Father’s Day Weekend, June 14-16, at private campgrounds along the Front Range and in the Rocky Mountains, Camp Colorado reported in this week’s e-newsletter.
Plenty of campsites – for tenters, RVers and cabin-dwellers – are available to take Dad out to celebrate his big weekend.
