Some of the RV sites at RV Haven along the Gulf Coast in Rockport, Texas.

From the Rockport Pilot:

The Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce conducted a ribbon cutting ceremony for RV Haven.

Paul Serur previously owned rental cabins and RV sites near Johnson City. His love of the Texas coast and the RV lifestyle inspired him to develop and create a haven for RVs, thus RV Haven.

The facility has 13 spacious full hook-up sites with picnic tables, laundry room, exotic animals, a natural setting and a very “down home country” feel. His goal is to make RV Haven a well sought after refuge, a place people want to return to and enjoy.

Located at 922 Mack Road, the hours of operation are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., or as necessary. Call (361) 230-4440 or email or visit

An 8-year-old Ann Arbor, Mich., boy died Monday (July 1) after the canoe he and his father were in overturned in Lake Michigan near Sleeping Bear Point.

The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office says the boy and his 48-year-old father had canoed from D.H. Campgrounds to North Manitou Island. They spent about 1 1/2 hours on the island before attempting to canoe back to the mainland.

However, the canoe overturned about a half mile from shore. The father used his cellphone to call D.H. Campgrounds to alert them he and his son were in the water. That prompted an emergency response.

The U.S. Coast Guard, National Park Service, Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office and Glen Arbor Fire Department all joined in the response. The Coast Guard helicopter found the overturned canoe with the father and son. They were pulled from the water. The boy was airlifted to Munson Hospital. The father was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Both were wearing life jackets and suffering from hypothermia. The boy died at the hospital.

The water temperature was reported to be 55 degrees at the time.
