The 2013 Gathering of the Juggalos began Wednesday (Aug. 7) at the Hog Rock Campgrounds at Cave-In-Rock in Southern Illinois. The gathering is slated to continue through Sunday.

Illinois State Police District 22 and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release that they “are prepared for large crowds that are expected this week in and around Cave-In-Rock.”

Authorities said that more than 10,000 people are expected to attend the gathering.

State and local officials said that visitors to Hardin County “should be prepared for heavy pedestrian and auto traffic due to this event” and also are “encouraged to plan for potential traffic delays.”

Casalinova Development Group, the company planning a hotel and restaurant across Route 26 from the Oxford Casino, has applied for a credit-enhancement agreement to develop a 550-acre property along the highway.

The June 28 application, signed by CDG President Joseph Casalinova, refers to a proposed $125 million project that includes at least one hotel, restaurants, retail development, vehicle-related services, a recreational vehicle area and housing.

Reached Tuesday at the company’s King Street headquarters in Oxford, Casalinova declined to speak in detail about the application. Company representatives did not respond to multiple requests for comment.


From Coast Weekend:

The Sou’Wester Lodge in Seaview will host the Rollin’ Oldies Vintage Travel Trailer Rally today (Aug. 9) through Sunday. The event is free and open to the public.

On Friday, attendees can tour inside vintage travel trailers from 3 to 5 p.m., and enjoy a bonfire at night.

On Saturday, there’s a Swap Meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and attendees can tour trailers from 2 to 4 p.m. A potluck will be held at 7 p.m., and live music will be featured at 8 p.m.
