A new campground could be coming in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in the Omaha, Neb., metro area.

A new campground at Lake Manawa might be ready for use in two years, an official for a lake organization said last week, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

The site would be on the lake’s north side with direct access from South 11th Street, said Tom Braddy, president of the Friends of Lake Manawa. Construction bids could be solicited next summer, he said.

It will replace the current site on the lake’s south side, Braddy said. The site’s cost is estimated at $1.8 million, and $1.3 million has been secured from the state, said Robert Schierbaum with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
