South Haven Family Campground, South Haven, Mich., has announced that it will become the fifth Michigan campground to join the Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort network.

“We have wanted to join the Jellystone Park chain from the get-go,” said Susan Novotny, who built South Haven Family Campground from the ground, up, with her husband, Kyle. But the franchise rights for the South Haven area only recently became available. The park will officially join the Jellystone Park network effective Jan. 1.

South Haven Family Campground has been an award-winning park since it first opened six years ago, receiving five consecutive “A” ratings in’s annual consumer satisfaction survey of campgrounds, RV parks and resorts.

The Novotnys have built a loyal following of campers from Michigan and surrounding states by offering top notch service, amenities and family oriented activities, which include Mother’s and Father’s Day activities, chocolate Slip N Slide and chocolate pudding wresting events, as well as “Christmas in July” and pre-Halloween themed events that include costume and campsite-decorating contests and a haunted house staffed by students from a local high school drama club.

“We have followed the Jellystone Park model all along,” Novotny said. “We have themed weekends. We have activities non-stop for the kids. And we are very kid friendly and family friendly.”

South Haven Family Campground currently has 67 sites, including 15 cabins and two park model cottages. “We hope to add 40 more sites and six more park model cottages and have them ready by next summer,” Susan Novotny said.

South Haven Family Campground will join Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts in Frankenmuth, Grayling, Indian River and Silver Lake. More information on South Haven Family Campground is available at
