Threatened N.Z. Campground in Global Show
A campground facing pressure to close is one of the sites featured in an international travel show that could reach 30 million viewers — though the campground could be closed by the time it airs.
The under-threat Takapuna Beach Holiday Park is to be showcased worldwide in Travel Channel show RV Rampage, reported TVNZ.
The show's hosts are British personalities who are big fans of New Zealand and rave about Takapuna's beauty. The reality travel series that opens with five couples staying in motorhomes at the camp.Contestants and the show's producers have been staying at the Takapuna campground as filming starts.
Producers are tight-lipped about much of the series content but say five international couples will travel from Auckland to Queenstown in campervans competing in challenges.
Takapuna caravan park owner Marius Rothman says money can't buy this kind of publicity. He says it flies in the face of those who want the campground closed and claim it doesn't bring money to the surrounding area.
Tourism New Zealand says the show is a real coup for New Zealand.
Ironically, the holiday park could be closed by then if plans to garage high-performance sailing dinghies there go ahead.
