CONY Names Top ’13 Campground Marketers
Campground Owners of New York (CONY), a trade association for privately owned campgrounds, honored three member campgrounds with marketing awards at the association’s awards banquet held during its 50th Annual Exposition for the Outdoor Hospitality Industry, at the Kaatskill Mountain Resort in Hunter, N.Y., Nov. 2.
Awards were announced for the following categories: Website design; simple brochure, and mailer piece. An independent panel reviewed all submissions and picked the winners for each category.
According to Suzanne Bixby, CONY’s marketing and communications director, there is a lot of quality work being done by campground operators to promote their businesses.
Bixby remarked, “We see many of the marketing pieces our members produce when they submit them for distribution at RV shows or for our direct mail fulfillment program. We also visit their websites at least once a year to verify our links to them. So, over the years we’ve noticed that CONY members are really making their parks stand out in a crowded field of brochures and websites. We like to honor them for those efforts.”
The 2013 Winners for best marketing pieces by members of Campground Owners of New York are:
Best Website: Copake KOA of Copake, operated by Gary and Cathy Reinard. The website was designed by Pelland Advertising, with additional design work by The Map Squad. Owner Cathy Reinard said, “We are so honored that our brainstorming on a new website design with Pelland Advertising and The Map Squad paid off with winning such a big honor – the website of the year on CONY’s 50th anniversary. We created a new reactive website to change with the times just as CONY is changing with the times to remain of vital importance to its membership.”

Best Simple Brochure Design: Hickory Hill Family Camping Resort of Bath. The resort is owned by Randy and Janet Lehman and managed by Rosemary Curtis. The brochure was designed by Taylor Communications, of Fairport, N.Y. The themes of “memories” and “fun” along with a cascade of photos are featured on the cover. According to Rosemary Curtis, “The 2013 Hickory Hill Vacation Guide was a completely new design created by Clyde Taylor. We went from our traditional full magazine look to the smaller tri-fold brochure. The piece did very well for us with the new design and we are honored that we were chosen for the 2013 Campground Owners of NY Marketing awards.”

Best Mailer Piece Design: Conesus Lake Campground of Conesus. The direct-mailer piece was designed by Taylor Communications for owners Mildred Yaniszewski, Gale Bennett, and Donald Bennett, Jr. The cover of the mailer piece shows an inviting image of Conesus Lake and touts, “Always beautiful, always fun!”
Co-owner Don Bennett, Jr. said, “After 50-plus years building a quality operation, my family really went all out to update and freshen up our campground’s logo, as well as our website and print pieces, giving the camping public a solid brand image to identify with our campground. We’re pleased to be recognized by CONY for our marketing efforts.”
