The 2013 Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association (PCOA) Convention, which was held at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Nov. 11-13, will go down in the history books as the best ever, according to the association, which celebrated 50 years.

“There was an excitement in the air. The facility was grand, the seminars were awesome, the networking was phenomenal, and everyone had a great time, looking back to where the association has been and looking forward to where it is going,” PCOA said in its press release.

The 50th anniversary celebration included a special salute to veterans on Monday evening; uplifting musical entertainment by the North Star Kids of Pittsburgh and a slide show presentation of PCOA history on Tuesday night; and the grand prize giveaway of a brand new Club Car golf cart on Wednesday.

Trade Show: 68 exhibitors were present. Great variety, including log cabin dealers, equipment dealers, shirt vendors, advertising, entertainers, food distributors, software providers, printers, online reservation systems, water treatment solutions, souvenirs. They reported excellent sales.

Auction: The Pennsylvania Auction raises funds for scholarships to fund educational scholarships and the National School of RV Park and Campground Management. Thanks to the generosity of the vendors and campground owners, a total of $28,378 was raised.

Convention attendance: There were more than 200 attendees from 86 Pennsylvania member campgrounds and one nonmember campground. Also attending were three prospective campground owners and two associates. Special guests were past presidents Fred Yeager and his wife Betty; Marvin Roberts and his wife Kathryn; and Kristen Wallis Chapman, representing her parents, Randy and Jane Wallis; former board member Bob Wehr; and retired owners Rob and Brenda Cope.

Preconvention Tour: On Sunday, prior to the Convention, Evergreen Insurance sponsored a trip to Fallingwater, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home located in Mill Run. A total of 73 people attended and afterward the group stopped for dinner at the historic Stone House Restaurant in Farmington.

The Venue: The convention was held at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, a family and luxury vacation destination on 2,000 wooded acres in the Laurel Highlands of Southwestern Pennsylvania. The management was wonderful to work with and the customer service of the staff was outstanding, according to PCOA. PCOA members said they were “treated like royalty.”

The annual meeting was attended by 59 campgrounds. The following were elected:
