Johnson Development Corp. has finalized its purchase of Camp Strake, a Boy Scouts campground spanning more than 2,000 acres in Conroe, Texas.

The Houston-based land developer, which was selected to purchase the property earlier this year, said it will now begin planning the site for development, a process expected to last until next summer, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The company said in a statement Monday (Nov. 25) that it will identify parcels that can be developed “and the best uses for these areas amidst the heavily wooded setting with a substantial amount of acreage dedicated as open spaces and nature preserves.”

For the next year, the Sam Houston Area Council Boy Scouts of America will continue to host scouting events there before moving to a spot between New Waverly and Coldspring.
