Three Kampgrounds of America (KOA) campgrounds were honored Thursday (Nov. 21) for leading the way in 2013 in KOA’s industry-leading Kamp Green Program.

The three – Barrie, Ontario, KOA, Naples, Fla., KOA and the Twin Mountain, N.H., KOA, were all honored during the second day of the annual KOA International Convention in Austin, Texas.

Barrie KOA was recognized for an innovative electronics recycling program that invited campers and the public to bring in outdated electronic devices for recycling. The funds collected from the recycling center were donated to the KOA Care Camps for children with cancer charity.

Naples KOA received recognition for a new solar-exchange system that uses the power of the sun to provide electrical service to the campground. The system also heats and cools the campground’s swimming pool.

The Twin Mountain KOA was also recognized for a custom bin recycling program that uses specially designed collection bins that encourage campers to separate and recycle their metal, paper and plastics.
