Ga. Campground Open For Winter Campers
Forget the Bahamas. Forget Hawaii. Looking for a gorgeous place to lounge around on Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve?
Two words: Sawnee Campground.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will keep Lake Lanier’s Sawnee Campground open until spring springs in 2014, just to make you happy.
Campers can pick the campsite of their liking and pay, review fees, rules and regulations, or obtain maps of the park and lake at the self-service registration station by the gatehouse on a first-come, first served basis.
The gatehouse isn’t staffed full-time, but park rangers and camp hosts will be making regular rounds.
After March 23 the campground will be closed for two weeks for preparation of the summer recreation season. They’ll reopen for the 2014 season April 10.
Sawnee Campground offers gorgeous waterfront sites with 50-amp service for larger RVs and primitive pack-in sites for camperss who enjoy sleeping outside in tents.
