Restaurant Owners Buy Minn. Campground
James and Diane Korte are already thinking about summertime, when they will get to take on their newest venture.
The Welcome, Minn., couple who run Kortes Bar and Grill will now also operate the Welcome Campground. The sale was official last month, the Fairmont Sentinel reported.
"We have always thought that once we were retired that we wanted to own a campground out West," Diane Korte said. "But then the grandchildren came, so we're staying here."
Along with operating the campground, the Kortes plant to keep running the bar and grill.
"The campground is only seasonal, and that's my pleasure time, my fun time, " Diane said. "It will be busy with two businesses, but it will work."
The Kortes were approached by the previous owners – Mildred and Wayne Joyce – toward the end of the summer and began privately working on a deal.
"They have a good business going there," Diane said. "We don't plan to change much; we're keeping the name and the phone number and e-mail. What we hope to add is more of a convenience store for those things you want and need while you're camping."
"We've got two acres where there's nothing that we might develop," added James Korte.
The Kortes' family and friends likely will help at the campground. Diane's mother, Mary Selbrate, will be on site, while other family members are available to help with maintenance and upkeep.
