Wis. Jellystone Plans Major Expansion

A proposed expansion at a Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort would add more than 130 sites to the popular Koshkonong, Wis., campground, but it has some close neighbors worried about the changes to a residential area, according to the Daily Union of Fort Atkinson.

Steven Cline, majority owner and manager of Jellystone Park, purchased a 40-acre parcel of land at N357 Old Highway 26 Road in 2005. The lot sits between the campground and State Highway 26 and the Glacial River Trail, and also is surrounded by several residential properties.

The campground now is looking to expand into the lot in order to “maintain a viable business model,” according to Cline. The $3 million to $5 million proposal — which will add approximately 63 guest cabin sites and 72 RV sites, along with a recreational area including a swimming lake and beach, mini golf course and volleyball and basketball courts — required a zoning change from local governments, at which point some neighbors began to push back.

Cline said the expansion will allow the park to become more competitive with modern campgrounds, and it should not negatively impact neighboring residents. However, a handful of neighbors have begun circulating a petition to stop the project.
