U.S. Forest Service Closes Campground
The U.S. Forest Service is converting a popular campground off Interstate 17 near Camp Verde to a day use area. The agency says that the Beaver Creek campground is in a flood zone and public safety necessitates the change, the Arizona Daily Sun reported.
Wet Beaver Creek floods regularly on both sides of the campground, making it dangerous to be there in certain seasons. In 1995, the entire campground was submerged.
Recent floods in other area campgrounds have had the Forest Service worried about the safety of visitors in Beaver Creek. By having people in the campground only during the day, they expect less of a hazard.
People will no longer be allowed to stay overnight beginning on March 1.
