A former campground near Huntertown, Ind., could be converted into a 197-lot housing development, the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reported.

Developer Jeff Thomas has asked the Allen County Plan Commission for permission to build a neighborhood to be called Whisper Rock on 152 acres of what was once called “Pony Town,” which until it closed several years ago was a popular site for retreats, parties and other events.

Pony Town operated for more than 30 years and was owned by Jack Maines, who also provided ponies for the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and other attractions. Maines died in 2012.
