Campground Pipes Freeze, Break

The cold weather broke some of the pipes at a James City (Va.) County campground and park, television station WVEC in Norfolk reported.

There’s no water service at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Officials say the pipes at the year-round campground are 30-40 years old. The leak occurred in an underground pipe adjacent to the full hook-up camping sites.

“The break was in an old pipe, which had been capped and abandoned. However, there was still pressure in the pipe,” said spokesperson Veda McMullen.

McMullen said there were no campers in the park at the time.

Chickahominy Riverfront Park opened in 2002.

The ice and snow has closed other parks and trails: Powhatan Creek Park, Jamestown Beach Park and Skate Park.
