Carefree Preps For Fla. Talent Show
Amateur talent competitions are taking place at Carefree RV Resort locations across Florida this month in preparation for the company’s third annual statewide talent competition, which takes place March 24 at the SUN 'n FUN Air Pavilion in Lakeland, according to a written announcement from Carefree.
“It’s going to be a fun time,” said Jerry Krentz, who stays at Carefree’s Regency Heights resort in Clearwater.
Krentz and his wife, Nancy, are members of the Kazoo Band, a group of 15 senior citizens who hum various songs, such as “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” into their kazoo instruments.
“We had a couple of rehersals before the big competition,” Nancy Krentz said, adding that the residents of Regency Heights had their own competition Feb. 15. The winner of that competition, Angela Grochowski — who won with her Lucile Ball comedy act —will compete against 30 other Carefree RV Resort property winners when Carefree holds its third-annual statewide talent competition finale.
“Talented residents from approximately 30 different Carefree RV Resort properties will be competing for a $5,000 grand prize,” said Colleen Edwards, president of Carefree RV Resorts. The second-place winner will receive $500 and a two night stay at Carefree’s Blue Moon Inn in Dunedin, Fla.
Carefree will provide all attendees with a barbecue dinner after the competition. “We hope our guests will spend the afternoon mixing with residents from Carefree parks across the state, celebrating the talented residents from our communities, and enjoying an afternoon of fun and BBQ,” Edwards said.
A portion of the sponsorship dollar received will go to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Service Trust which supports physical and psychological rehabilitation programs that serve ill, injured or wounded veterans.
