Chili Time At Tres Rios Aids Cancer Society
The eighth-annual Tolbert Chili and Barbecue Cook-off at Tres Rios RV Resort in Glen Rose, Texas, will help the Johnson County Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society this weekend, according to a written announcement from Ocean Canyon Properties, a privately owned RV membership camping resort company.
This chili cook-off is part of a series of Tolbert cook-offs in Texas, culminating with the 48th Annual International Frank X. Tolbert – Wick Fowler Memorial Championship in Terlingua, Texas on Nov. 1.
Kicking off with an appetizer competition Friday and continuing with the main dishes on Saturday, the chili cook-off features dishes from multiple categories. Submissions will include barbecue, salsa, beans, dutch oven bread, a dutch oven open entry, fruit dessert, pork ribs, chicken, pork butt and brisket. The first of its kind in the area, the cook-off attracts dozens of cooks and families every year looking to get in on the fun and show off their cooking prowess from all over the south.
Peter Graffman, executive vice president of Ocean Canyon, said, “We are excited to be hosting this charitable event again at Tres Rios. It has become a wonderful tradition for Ocean Canyon Properties. We salute Chairperson Lori Nunez and her dedicated team for their success over the last seven years in organizing this event and raising money for a great cause. We look forward to participating in another year of great food, great friends, and great fun!”
Prizes will be awarded for first through third place in each category. The cook with the most points at the end of the competition will be awarded the High-Point Cook $200 cash prize. First place in each category wins a cash prize of $50. At the end of the event, select dishes will be served to the public. For more information, visit the website or call (254) 221-0018. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
“It has been a blessing for our relay team, School of Hope, to organize an event that supports finding a cure for cancer. Our cooks have been very supportive by participating and generously donating. Over the years, the cook-off has continued to increase in cooks’ participation. We invite everyone to come out and cook or eat the awesome BBQ and chili,” said Nunez.
