Fire Spreads Through 11 RVs In Campground
An intense fire at a northern Alabama campground destroyed 11 camper trailers as exploding propane tanks ignited them one by one, according to the Associated Press.
The blaze at Spring Valley Campgrounds in northwest Colbert County was reported shortly after 2 a.m. Monday (March 24).
The TimesDaily reported that the campers were unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Spring Valley owner Geraldine Childers said the fire started in one camper and spread to the others. She said each camper had at least a couple of propane tanks, so it was "like popcorn popping."
Video posted at the TimesDaily's website shows flames lighting up the pre-dawn sky accompanied by a loud and continuous sound that one witness compared to the sound of a jet engine.
