If all goes well, the first phase of a new upscale RV park in Silt, Colo., may be open for business in June, the Glenwood Springs Post Independent reported.

Currently being called “Camp Colorado River,” the project has been under construction since mid-January and is expected to take about five years until final buildout, according to Ray Nielsen, owner, architect and designer of Camp Colorado River LLC.

“It’s going to be a KOA (Kampgrounds of America) campground and the first phase will be 67 RV spaces and four cabin units on eight-and-a-half acres,” Nielsen said.

The first phase also includes construction of a two-story main building with restrooms and showers.

Ultimately, the total 56 acres will include 160-170 cabins and RV spaces with a pool, gift shop and a convenience store.

The location of the property, north of the Colorado River and south of Interstate 70, was the main reason the company chose Silt to locate Camp Colorado River.

“The river was key for us,” Nielsen said. “I think we can embrace the river. We’d like to have some rafting and kayaking and water sports. We also own an island in the river and we want to put a zipline in there.”
