NP Campgrounds To Reopen In May

Two frontcountry campgrounds in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that were closed last season due to federal budget cuts will re-open for 2014, the Knoxville (Tenn.) News Sentinel reported.

The Balsam Mountain Camground in North Carolina and the Abrams Creek Campground in Tennessee are scheduled to open on May 23.

Cataloochee Campground and Elkmont Campground will open on March 14. Big Creek Campground, Deep Creek Campground and Cosby Campground are scheduled to open April 11. Look Rock Campground on the Foothills Parkway will remained closed for 2014 pending repairs to the water system.

Group sites at Cades Cove Campground will open March 14. The rest of the campground is open all year.
