A proposed license fee increase for food service, lodging, and campground establishments failed to make it past a South Dakota State Senate committee, South Dakota Public Broadcasting reported, Senate Bill 62 would have increased the annual license fees for restaurants, hotels, and campgrounds. A former occupant of a recreational vehicle park is suing the owner of the facility for damages stemming from injuries allegedly suffered while working on the property, the Newport (Ore.) News Times reported. The lawsuit claims Michael Hartz suffered permanent injury to his right foot after developing a cut or open wound while “performing lawn maintenance with a weed-eater” at Idaho Point Marina on July 1, 2014. Park model RV (PMRV) wholesale shipments for 2014 were reported at 3,781 units, an increase of 5.1% (183 units) over 2013 shipments, according to a detailed announcement from the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). The single largest shipment state for PMRVs in 2014 was Arizona at 421 units shipped. Texas came in second with 356 units shipped while California was third with 281 units. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced that F.J. McLain State Park in the Upper Peninsula city of Hancock, Mich., has closed a total of 32 lakefront campsites due to unsafe conditions and extreme Lake Superior shoreline erosion. Campsites 86-103 will remain permanently closed, but campsites 72-85 will be re-evaluated in the spring for safety and accessibility.
