A golf course at a Rhode Island state park and two campgrounds won’t open on time because of lingering snow cover, the Associated Press reported. The Department of Environmental Management says the golf course at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick is not playable because snow is still on the course. With daytime temperatures at Lake Tahoe in the high 60s, U.S. Forest Service officials have decided to open some recreation sites early, the Sacramento (Calif.) Bee reported. Delaware Gov. Jack Markell joined other officials Friday (March 27) for the opening of the brand-new North Inlet Campground, enabling the public to enjoy other new improvements at Delaware Seashore State Park, according to a written announcement from the state. Unseasonably warm weather and low snow pack has created early recreational opportunities in the Umpqua National Forest near Roseburg, Ore., television station KPIC reported. According to staff at Diamond Lake Resort, 1978 was the last year with weather this warm so early in the spring. In mid-March, recreation staff in the Diamond Lake Ranger District opened portions of Diamond Lake and Thielsen View campgrounds.
